Austin Heavy 12/4 Open Tourer 'Old Min'

 

Medcalf and co were delighted and proud to have worked on behalf of and in conjunction with R S Williams to restore Peter Seller’s favourite car, which he called ‘Old Min’. Medcalf and Co carried out the bodywork restoration and R S Williams carried out the mechanical restoration. Bodywork carried out included all items below.

DISMANTLING

 

  • Remove all exterior parts and rubber extrusions.
  • Dismantle doors and remove door shells.
  • Dismantle and remove bonnet assembly.
  • Remove radiator grill, all front lamps & mountings, bonnet catches, front bumper assembly, etc.
  • Remove windscreen assembly.
  • Specialist’ removal of interior trim and hood assembly.
  • Remove door tread finishers and shut plates.
  • Remove rear bumper, rear lights and spare wheel carrier assembly.
  • Remove seats and set aside.
  • Remove further components as necessary to facilitate work.
  • Remove offside & nearside front & rear wings, offside & nearside running boards.
  • Remove offside & nearside wing stanchions and bracketry.

 

PAINT REMOVAL

 

  • Strip complete exterior of body and all displaced panels to bare metal.
  • Clean & prepare all shuts and reveals.

 

PANELWORK

 

  • Pre-fit bonnet sections to align and re-gap correctly.
  • Dress all exterior panelwork to remove any indentations.
  • Fabricate new sections of panelwork as necessary and let in to replace corroded areas.
  • Re-surface all exterior panelwork and displaced panels prior to paint refinishing.

 

PAINTWORK

 

  • Flat and prepare external surfaces of body to include shuts and reveals.
  • Flat and prepare dash top rolls and facia, etc.
  • Self etch, coat with primer surfacer and stove.
  • Flat as necessary, re-prepare and re-prime.
  • Flat and prepare car for final refinishing, masking as necessary to accommodate prior two-tone colour scheme.
  • Painting car in garnet (see note 1) to pattern.
  • Re-masking as necessary, preparing and painting black section to previous scheme.
  • Procedure repeated on all displaced panels.
  • Flat and machine polish all refinished surfaces

NB 1. Colour supplied by specialist manufacturer to match pattern provided.
